African Lion (ringtone)
PhotoDisc

© Dennis Hysom (audio)
African Lion, Panthera leo
Lions do not mate at any specific time of year, and the females are polyestrous (go into heat several times a year). A lioness may mate with more than one male when she is in heat. As a family of species, cats are interesting in that many cat species share similar traits—anyone familiar with reproductive habits of house cats will know what's happening when observing the courting and mating habits of lions. During mating bouts, which can last several days, the couple can mate twenty to forty times a day and are likely to forgo eating and most other activities. No wonder they're known to sleep up to twenty hours per day! This ringtone is the vocalization of a male lion announcing his presence—to both females and potential competing males.
