Brown Pelican, Pelecanus occidentalis
Unlike its larger white relative, the Brown Pelican seldom soars. Nor does it make any real vocalization—Brown Pelicans are essentially silent. Nonetheless they are quite gregarious birds and are quite comfortable around humans. Around waterfronts and marinas individual birds become quite tame, taking fish offered them by humans.
