Black-capped Chickadee, Poecile atricapilla
This ringtone is the distinctive two note song that chickadees make when solitary, to advertise the fact that they're looking for a mate. These birds are constantly active —hopping, often feeding upside down, clinging to the underside of twigs and branches in their search for insect eggs and larvae. Flocks of this tame and inquisitive bird spend the winter making the rounds of feeders in a neighborhood, often appearing at each feeder with striking regularity. Chickadees have another very interesting trait, On cold winter nights, they can reduce their body temperature by up to 10-12 °C to conserve energy. Learn more about this species
