Purple Finch
Carpodacus purpureus
Purple Finches are numerous and conspicuous during spring migration. Quite territorial, the male's bright breeding plumage, which you can clearly observe in this video, both assists with courting and wards off competitors. After the clutch is raised, they may be seen in large flocks visiting orchards, parks, and other woodlands. In winter they visit feeding stations in large numbers, showing a fondness for sunflower seeds. An affinity which the male in this video clearly shares.
